Shining Night: A Portrait of Composer Morten Lauridsen is a feature-length documentary and first episode of the series, In Search of The Great Song,
Shining Night offers a glimpse of the life and music of one of the greatest living composers, Morten Lauridsen, who spends summers on a remote island in the Pacific Northwest and whom musicologist Nick Strimple distinguishes as 'the only American composer in history who can be called a mystic'.
Winner of two Best Documentary awards since opening on February 7, 2012 in Palm Springs, Shining Night was named 'a heartening rarity' by Terry Teachout of the Wall Street Journal. Directed by first-time filmmaker Michael Stillwater and co-produced with his wife Doris Laesser Stillwater, it gives audiences a rare encounter with this National Medal of Arts recipient, composer of radiant choral works which inspire humanity and convey a spiritual transmission to singers and audiences alike.

About the Film Series:
Our intention is to inspire the remembrance of an underlying connection through creative expression while exploring themes of singing and songmaking in particular. As such, the series brings awareness to a worldwide epidemic of people afraid to sing, or express their creative self, unless they believe their offering is 'perfect'- while highlighting an active global movement of creative expression.
Produced by Michael Stillwater and Doris Laesser Stillwater, a series of documentaries is in development, each episode featuring a different expression around the theme of 'The Great Song'. The films include both known and unknown artists, teachers, scientists, elders and youth.
